[load balancing] AD184's

Have been off the list for a number of years, but glad to see it still
up and active :-)

 

I have a requirement to build out an infrastructure requiring 6 Load
Balancers. Their isn't the budget for high-end appliances, so I was
thinking along the lines of Coyote E550Si's or WebMux 481s/591sg's.

 

Then I had a quick look around some refurb shops and ebay for a quick
scour of my favourite platform from back in the day (Alteon). I noticed
that AD4s and 184s are now extremely cheap, and still have around 1.5yrs
before EOL. I've got a company to quote for a service contract for
support/maintenance for this platform, with a view of buying several
184s and keeping a couple more in the store (just in case). With the
current price level this seems to me to be a good idea.

 

Apart from the EOL in 2010, can anyone think of good business reasons
NOT to go down this route?

 

I really can't believe how cheap I can now get this platform for!
