There is an article in www.sysadminmag.com, June 2001 by Thomas Kranz
"Redundant NIC's on Solaris. He wrote a script to do a ping test to check
for failure and then upon failure change default routes.
And with Solaris 8 OE update 10/00 you can use IP Multipathing.

Other solutions to look at are Cisco's HSRP for the routers in front of
the load balancers.
