    You can not ping the PIP/NAT address when doing a Many-to-One NAT.
    One-to-One NAT will allow you to ping the PIP/NAT address.

    I just configured my alteon 180e to do static NAT, mapping
    a private 10.10.10.x ip address to a public external ip address.

    It seems to work fine - I can connect to the private machine using ssh, or
    connect to the webserver using the the external NAT ip address - the only
    thing that doesn't work is PING. If I try and ping the external NAT ip
    address I can't see it.

    Does anyone know the reason for this ?

    I set the protocol in the NAT filters to "any"
