no, it means that it will be treated as a broadcast frame based on the fact
    that the destination
layer 2 MAC address is not known in the FDB. So, we'll flood the mcast frame
    out of all ports
in the same VLAN except the port it came in on.

    Hi Peter,

"The Alteon will treat multicast packets as broadcasts."
This means that it will not forward the packet or that it will forward to
the other network with a BroadCast Address instead of a MultiCast Address.
There is no trick that could allow mean to forward that kind of paquet
    without changing anything
neither the frequence neither the Ethernet Address?

    Alexandre,

    Hi Alexandre,

The Alteon will treat multicast packets as broadcasts. If you want all
servers to see the multicasts you need to put them on the same VLAN.

I still can't make this work.
Can someone please help about my following question:
1/ By default, how the Alteon route a packet to the destination 224.0.1.84?

2/ I want that the Alteon send the packet to the network without changing
the MAC Multicast (which is not what is happening now). How can I do this?

3/ Can the Alteon handle IGMP or CGMP to communicate with the switch about
    the Multicast trafic?

    Thank for any information

    Hi,

I have two network A and B which are connected to one alteon.
A server A1 on network A send IP Multicast Paquet to 224.0.1.84 (Jini
Technologie). The other server on network A see the multicast from the
server A1. The servers on network B never see the multicast from A1. I have
add a allow filter based on the destination 224.0.1.84. It matches but
doesn't see to forward the paquet. I have try to add a multicast route
224.0.1.84/32 via 0.0.0.0. The multicast is still not forwarded. Is it
neccessary to add a route and which one?

If the route doesn't work, is there something I could do to solve the
    problem.

    Thanks

    Alexandre
