Strange. From the CSS manual, it sounds like it already does what you want:

    (config-service) suspend
To remove the service from the pool for future load-balancing content
requests, use the suspend command. Suspending a service does not affect
existing content flows, but it does prevent additional connections from
accessing the service for its content.

Maybe the issue is that it kills all connections when you put it active
again? In Cisco LocalDirector you need to use "oos maintenance" if you want
to keep existing connections when you put it back into service.

capable of putting a service into a suspend without lossing the connected
    users?

I can't imagine there is a SLB that is _not_ capable of that, e.g. in Alteon
"/oper/slb/dis" doesn't kill existing connections and optionally allows new
TCP/HTTP connections that have a cookie affinity for that server (if you
tell it to with the "p" for "persistent" option).

    Pete.

Subject: [load balancing] Question about lbs

    Hi,
as of today Cisco CSS only allow to have a service active/suspend. Problem
is how to put that service in "no more connection but keep current users".
cisco told us it's coming in new realease. My question is: Is there any lb
capable of putting a service into a suspend without lossing the connected
    users?

    Thankx.

    Daniel.
